Implications for single-breed genetic evaluations

Single-breed BREEDPLAN evaluations are unaffected and will continue to be available.

During the research and development phase of multibreed genetic evaluations, breed associations will be requested to make the data available from the current BREEDPLAN genetic evaluation for their respective breed to support the development of multibreed genetic evaluation.

Once multibreed genetic evaluations are available, it is envisaged that the breeding values will be published alongside the BREEDPLAN EBVs from single-breed genetic evaluations for an initial review and consultation period (e.g. 12 months).

After the review and consultation period is completed, breed associations will decide whether to maintain or decommission the current single breed BREEDPLAN genetic evaluation for their breed, and/or participate in multibreed genetic evaluation on an ongoing, routine basis.

The commercial delivery pathway for multibreed genetic evaluations is currently being developed. Further announcements are anticipated shortly.
